Dr. Sharon Rucker, Principal

I am honored to be the principal of Providence Elementary School. It is a privilege to work alongside such dedicated students, staff, and parents, and I genuinely believe I have the best job in the school system!

My journey began in Maryland, but I moved to Virginia in 1986 to start college. After earning a degree in Special Education in 1991, I taught students with learning disabilities at Reams Road Elementary for 15 years. In 2006, I earned my Master's in Educational Leadership and transitioned to the role of Assistant Principal at Reams Road Elementary.

Since joining Providence Elementary in 2009, I have found my home within this vibrant school community. My passion for education led me to further my studies, and I earned a Doctorate in Educational Leadership in 2011. I am deeply committed to supporting our students, staff, and families, and I look forward to continuing our work together to make Providence Elementary the best it can be!

Whitney Wells-Corfield, Assistant Principal

Greetings, Providence Elementary Bears! It is my honor to serve as your assistant principal. I am passionate about high-quality public education, and nothing gives me more joy than serving students, staff, and families in my community. My family and I moved from Hanover County to Chesterfield County in February 2022, which led me to this role.

Like our principal, Dr. Rucker, I was born in Maryland. I’ve also lived in Delaware, Illinois, and North Carolina. Virginia has been my home since 2006 when I graduated from the University of Richmond with a degree in sociology and elementary education. Four years later, I earned my master’s degree in educational leadership at VCU. I used that degree to be an instructional leader, a teacher for eleven years in grades 2, 4, and 5, and a K-5 mathematics coach for five years. I am currently working on my doctorate.

During my career, I have been honored with a few awards, including Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching Finalist, Hanover County’s Innovator of the Year, R.E.B. Award of Teaching Excellence Recipient, and Henrico County Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year. All my experiences leading up to this exciting school year have prepared me to bring my enthusiasm and passion for learning to you! I value open communication, high-quality instruction, and whole-child learning. I am thrilled to be part of your learning community!
